Why you should watch Wrestlemania 28

This post has nothing to do with anime. As a hardcore wrestling fan, I'm just doing my duty as a raving fanboy to promote the massive main-event of this year's 'Mania. You don't need to know much about WWE currently to read or understand this post.

Wrestlemania 28 has the potential to be the biggest WM of all time. It has arguably the most star-powered lineup in over a decade, which is quite a feat considering that stars like Goldberg, Lesnar and Austin were in the company up until 8 years ago. Regardless of whether you've been following WWE the past few years, now is the perfect time to jump in, because I foresee the pro-wrestling industry returning to prominence in the next couple of years. All of the storylines are easy to follow and hell, if you start watching Monday Night Raw starting tomorrow, you can still be drawn into the hype of the pay-per-view. I'm only going into the main event and not over the entire card because quite frankly, we're all in it for the biggest match in the last 10 years.Without further ado, let's get right down to it.

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is an icon. After a great career in football, he joined the WWF as a third-generation wrestler called Rocky Malvia. As good as he was at that time, people got tired of his goofy style and lost interest in him. Soon, with the advent of the Monday Night Ward between WWF and WCW, the Attitude Era began. It was then that Rocky Malvia was repackaged and became The Rock. Spouting catchphrases and verbally kicking people in the balls, he became one of the biggest stars in the world at the forefront of the Attitude Era. He was selling out arenas all over the world and his merchandise could be found in every third store. Yes, he was a iconic figure indeed. But when Hollywood came calling, he couldn't refuse and after a few brief feuds, he left the company for good. He did his best to keep away from wrestling and to get people to think of him as Dwayne Johnson and not the Rock. He wanted to remove his wrestler image, because it's hard for an audience watching a movie to suspend their disbelief that the People's Champion was a in a normal feature film. And can you blame him? Less bumps, more $$$.

Meanwhile, another star had been growing in popularity - a young man named John Cena. This Vanilla Ice white kid became a huge fan favorite after he started rapping his promos and exuding aggressive charisma. For the next few years, he would be one of the hottest stars of the company until he was injured. When he returned, he returned with a new character - a Superman-esque hero guy. And this is where the problem started. John Cena's new character was so cheesy, highly reminiscent of Hulk Hogan's "hulking up" gimmick. The crowds dug him for a while, but things got stale real fast. The older and more mature audience turned on him and started booing him. Over the years, the boos have only grown louder, with a dueling "Let's go Cena /Cena Sucks" chant almost a staple in his matches. Make no mistake, everyone respects him, he's on the road 300 days a year, works harder than anyone else, does a lot of charity and became one of the most requested stars in the Make A Wish foundation. But this larger-than-life schtick did not stick for long, as he just wouldn't lose clean. People thought that they just had to put up with him running over every single wrestler...until.

On February 14th, the Rock made his return to WWE after seven long years as the guest host of Wrestlemania 27. After a less than stellar main event which was Miz vs Cena, the real fireworks began the next night on RAW. John Cena challenged the Rock to a match. And the Great One accepted. The match was set for the grandest stage of them all - Wrestlemania 28 in Miami, the Rock's hometown. And wrestling twats around the world ejaculated.

The reason why this match is so big is because it's a clash of two generations, two icons, two posterboys. Think Muhammad Ali vs Mike Tyson, except that this match will actually happen. The Rock, the legend from the Attitude Era, returning to face John Cena, the current face of the WWE. When these two behemoths collide, you can be damn sure that they'll be giving it their very best to electrify the viewers. This is one of the biggest bouts of all time, alongside the mega money matches like Hogan vs Andre. You can bet your candy ass that when The Rock and Cena stand in the middle of that squared circle on April 1st and the bell rings, millions around the world will freeze - for it is a moment that we've been waiting all our lives to see and a moment that we'll remember for the rest of our lives. Don't miss it.

P.S: Even if you skimmed through the whole post, this promo should get you fired up.
P.P.S: As for the whole "wrestling is fake" thing...let's not go there.
